INDONESIA THE SECOND MOST-FAVORED TOURIST DESTINATION IN ASIA
Indonesia is the second-most popular destination in Asia for tourists. Go Asia, a German market research initiative for Asia, established this following a survey and awarded Indonesia with the Go Asia Award in Berlin on 11 March 2009. This brings Indonesia to the top of the most valued tourist destinations in Asia after Thailand and before Malaysia.
Go Asia almost awards prizes in the categories The Best Hotel in Asia, The Most Innovative Package tour to Asia, The Best Asian Airlines, The Best Tourist Office of Asia and The Best German Tour Operator for Asia.
The Director General for Marketing at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, Sapta Nirwandar, expressed his pleasure for the award also in view of the number of German tourists to Indonesia which increased by 22.6% in 2008 compared to 2007 and added that the tourism sector of Indonesia was able to generate 7,5 billion US $ in currencies despite of the financial crisis. He said further that the current financial crisis should be a catalyst for further advance the development of the country, especially the tourism sector.
